Gardena, CA - The
Gardena Chamber of Commerce recently presented Assemblyman Curren Price with
an Award of Recognition for his outstanding efforts on behalf of the
business community during his first legislative term. Assembly Member
Price also spoke at a breakfast, hosted by the Lawndale Chamber of Commerce
to discuss efforts to increase the number of small businesses doing business
with the State. As Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on
Procurement, Price has been an effective advocate on behalf of the small

Member Price Looks to Labor in Assessing School
Board Candidates
Assembly Member Curren Price attended the SEIU Local
99 Labor Candidates Forum that was held on Saturday, September 29th.
Price observed the process and had an opportunity to speak to those in
attendance. Price expressed his support for the candidates as endorsed
by Local 99, and pledged his intention to work with them in the upcoming
school board races being held in the 51st District.
Price Becomes an Officer of the Legislative Black Caucus - Members
of the Legislative Black Caucus voted Assembly Member Curren Price as the
new Secretary of the organization. The 2008 officers include Senator Mark
Ridley-Thomas as Chair, Assembly Member Karen Bass as Vice-Chair and
Assembly Member Wilma Carter as Treasurer. Price will officially serve
in this capacity starting in January '08 and anticipates taking on greater
responsibilities through the end of his legislative term in 2010 as he is
re-elected. |

LEGISLATIVE WATCH
Price Supports Education: As Chair of the Assembly Select
Committee on Procurement, Assemblyman Price was a guest speaker at the
California Public Utilities Commission to show his support in its ongoing
efforts to promote diversity in hiring and contracting practices. Price
emphasized the importance of the new California Aspire Achieve Lead Pipeline
Project, a creative statewide program that encourages exposing students to
career opportunities in the areas of law and finance. The program provides
educational opportunities for students in pre-school through graduate school.
AB 610 - Small Business Expansion Fund - The Small Business Loan
Guarantee program, along with the local Financial Development Corporations (FDCs),
grant millions of dollars in loans to small businesses throughout California
each year, but are limited by a statutory cap. If signed, this bill will
enable the FDCs to make 50-75 more small business loans per year than under the
current statutory cap. AB 610 would raise the leverage ratio of the Smal
Business Expansion Fund from 4 to 1 to 5 to 1. January

October Is National Lupus Awareness Month: Each person with Lupus
has slightly different symptoms that can range from mild to severe and may
come and go over time (arthritis),
unexplained fever, and extreme fatigue.
A characteristic red skin rash - called a butterfly or malar rash may appear
across the nose and cheeks. Rashes may also occur on the face and
ears, upper arms, shoulders, chest, and hands. Because many people
with lupus are sensitive to sunlight (called photosensitivity), skin rashes
often first develop or worsen after sun exposure.
